Export grades as CSV

There are three CSV exports, and which one you want depends on the shape your gradebook expects. The class gradebook is a matrix: one row per student, one column per assignment, and an average at the end. The assignment export is a list: one row per graded sheet on a single assignment, with the score, the total and the date. The Review export takes whatever your current filter is showing, across classes and assignments, and is the only one of the three that is not restricted to paid plans. All three download straight to your machine and open in any spreadsheet. Every gradebook that is not Google Classroom or Canvas takes one of these.

Exports exactly what your current filter is showing. Columns: date, student, assignment, class, kind, score, total, percent, note. The kind column says whether the row is an essay or a worksheet, and where no student is tagged the name read off the paper is used instead. Up to 2,000 rows.

Getting it into your gradebook

The class gradebook export is deliberately shaped like a Google Classroom grade export, which is the shape most gradebooks are willing to read, so the usual route is to open it in a spreadsheet and paste the column you need. Match on the student name or the email, whichever your gradebook keys on.

Percent columns are whole numbers. Score and Total are given separately as well as the percentage, so a gradebook that wants raw points does not have to recompute them from a rounded percentage.

What this will not do

A CSV is numbers, not marking. No comments, no feedback, no marked page. Those live in Review and reach a student by email. If you want a student to see why, the export is the wrong vehicle.

The Review export stops at 2,000 rows. Filter it down, by class, assignment or student, rather than exporting everything at once. The two roster exports are naturally bounded by the class or assignment.

The two roster exports need a paid plan. Classes and assignments are what they are built out of. Exporting your own grades from Review is not gated.

Common questions

How do I get grades into a gradebook that is not Classroom or Canvas?

Export a CSV and import it. There are three exports: a whole-class gradebook with one column per assignment, a single assignment’s grades with one row per student, and a filtered export of whatever you are looking at in Review. Every gradebook that is not Google Classroom or Canvas takes one of those.

What columns does the class gradebook export have?

Student, Email, then one column per assignment, then Average %. An assignment column is headed with its name and its points, like Unit 4 (/13). It is shaped like a Google Classroom grade export so it pastes straight into a spreadsheet.

What columns does an assignment export have?

Student, Class, Email, Score, Total, Percent, Graded. One row per graded sheet. A paper with nobody tagged to it appears with Untagged in the Student column rather than being left out.

What does a blank cell mean?

In the class gradebook, a blank cell means that student has no sheet for that assignment, which is different from a zero. A blank Average % means there is nothing to average yet. A blank Email means no address is on file for that student, which is optional throughout.

Do I need a paid plan to export?

For the two roster exports, yes, because classes and assignments are paid features. The filtered export from Review is not gated: any signed-in teacher can export their own grades, which matters if you are trying the free plan and want your own data out.

Is there a limit on how many rows I can export?

The filtered export from Review stops at 2,000 rows. The two roster exports are bounded by the class or the assignment itself, so in practice they are the size of your class.

What is in the filename?

The kind of export, the class or assignment name, and the date, so a folder of them stays readable: gradebook-period-3-math-2026-09-19.csv, or grades-unit-4-2026-09-19.csv.
